Solikamsk Desulphurizer Works (SZD) was founded in April 22, 1996 as a Joint Venture of Company «ALMAMET GmbH», Germany, and JSC «Solikamsk Magnesium Works», Russia.
Granulated magnesium is a main product of the enterprise. Today the first line with annual capacity of 4,000 tons is launched. It is in future planned to expand production up to 8,000 tons per year. The activity of the Company is based on the many years’ experience of both Russian and foreign metallurgists.
As a feedstock for granular production SZD uses both prime magnesium ingots and ingots of magnesium alloys, including secondary magnesium alloy. The selection of raw material is determined by the requirements for chemical purity and composition of finished product.
The Company has a raw material resource base with big potential represented by two major producers of the Russian magnesium — JSC «Solikamsk Magnesium Works» and JSC «Corporation VSMPO-AVISMA», both located in the Urals, Perm Territory. These JSC are based on the unique Upper-Kama deposit of potassium and magnesium salts resulting from geochemical processes taken place in lagoon of the earliest Silurian sea. The enormous reserves of binary salts of magnesium chloride and potassium chloride (KCl-MgCl2-6Н20) called carnallite in honour of German geologist P.Karnall are feedstock for magnesium production of the above mentioned companies. Metal magnesium is produced by method of camallite fused electrolysis at these companies.
The city of Solikamsk has an advanced transport infrastructure enabling fast and quality worldwide goods delivery. The Company team consists of brilliant professionals with great experience of work in metallurgy. They are also acquainted with the activity of similar enterprises in other countries.
The basis for successful development of SZD is the production of granules with various contents, of various sizes and forms intended for use in desulphuration of steel-making iron, as well as in chemical and electronic industries, pyrotechnics and other industries.
Granules are produced by mechanical method in automatic mode. The sections with high fire and explosion hazards are all-insulated and provided with interlocking systems and other methods and equipment for the protection of the employees and assets in case of emergencies as well astor prevention of dangerous situations.
Granulated magnesium is shipped in Big-Bags. Big-Bags have antistatic coating, meet European standards and designed for transportation of inflammable cargos. One BopBag has about 1 net ton capacity and is placed on a wooden pallet. Metal drums are the second main oaekage type. They are also certified for magnesium transportation. Big-Bags and drums are shipped in covered railway cars or by trucks.
